Couples Therapy
We repeat what we do not repair (Christine Langley-Obaugh)
When we encounter difficulties in our primary relationship, it can have a deep and stressful impact on our sense of wellbeing. Couples can find themselves feeling trapped and at an impasse; not knowing which way to turn.
The work of couples therapy is to unfold your relationship and face up to what is holding you back from having the relationship that you hope for.
It involves balancing the here-and-now with the past and challenging repetitive and learned patterns of behaviour from our formative years. In this way we can look at how our unconscious processes are impacting on our consciousness and sometimes hold us back in creating and sustaining enriching relationships.
While the process is challenging, the results can increase intimacy and understanding of yourselves and each other.
Common issues that are brought to therapy include:
- conflict
- lack of intimacy
- infidelity
- anxiety
- feeling depleted and depressed
- eating disorders
- addiction
- stress
- loneliness
- illness
- loss
- sexuality
- retirement
- communication difficulties
